Hop along the blogging trail, to each of the blogs/sites listed below. Please leave a comment HERE and on each of the blogs you visit, including the Simple Stories blog - it will be worth your while; you will see some awesome projects with Simple Stories goodies! Hint hint: prizes to score, winners chosen from your comments! Woohoo!

For my project, I have been working on something that will likely be my favorite album that I've ever made. My little son, only 4, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Sept 12, 2011. The worst news a mother ever wants to hear is that not only is your baby sick, but that it is something that will not go away. I made a not-quite mini album to record the journey from discovery to coping, and it has hidden pockets and journaling spots everywhere! As soon as I decidedI would do this, the Simple Stories Destinations paper collection came to mind as the perfect supply to use.

For a truly different type of Destination, take a look:

Book cover is simply chipboard with beautiful pattern paper and embellishments.
first pages:
Each page has a full size slit in the outer edge, which holds a 4x6 photo mat, or journal tag, or accordian fold letter. Tons of real estate in this book!

Second set of pages, flaps closed:
Each of the flaps also has the side slit, so they have hidden tags as well.

With flaps open:

Still a few pages to go before I'm done. It's a very emotional project for me, so I'm taking my time. Look how beautiful this paper is!

I am so proud of not only my son, and this project, but for me actually scrapping this. My son is so young, he won't remember the how or when or why. This is a gift for him. He's an amazing little boy, and I hope he will see through this just how special he is to us, and just how far we will go to keep him safe and well and loved.

So hop on, everyone! Enjoy, and have fun! Here's your path:

My husband has diabetes and the first thing I had to learn is that it never goes away. But it's always in the back of your mind.

  7. That's a beautiful book! We (my daughter & I) love making mini albums like that. There's just something special about a book all made by hand that you can look through with your eyes and your hands. All the textures, the flaps, the secret pockets - it's just magical, isn't it? Beautiful!

  13. Cindy, your take on how to use that Destinations paper is amazingly inspirations. I never thought of documenting an emotional journey. I wish you the best of everything with your son! There are a lot of resources out there. My mom had type 2 and my brother and I are ever vigilant about our own health so that we do not acquire it as we age. I thank God that so far, so good! Awesome blog! Love all the color!!!

  16. WOW - what a wonderful gift to give to your son - this is something he will cherish his whole life - to know how much his Mom cares and loves him - documenting this journey is a wonderful way to record your emotions, feelings and fears, as well as your proud Mom moments and your love for your son. My 21yr old nephew was diagnosed around the same age as your son and he is doing wonderfully - he has grown up into such a loving young man. God Bless you, your son and your family and will continue to pray for a cure.

Just wanted to tell you, Cindy, that your album is beautiful and a wonderful work from the heart from your son.
We have friends whose sons both have Type 1 diabetes. They have good days and bad days, but the good news is that their disease is manageable - not perfect, by any means, but manageable. I wish you and your family guidance and support and hope in your son's lifetime, there will be a cure for juvenile diabetes!

I am sure having this journal and being able to talk and live about your son's diabetes will be a big help, and someday he will get great joy from being able to read it. Lovely.

  38. Your album is amazing! I am so sorry to hear about your son. My daughter was in a car accident this past year where she broke her neck. She is ok, made a full recovery. But I scrapped it too. Helped me deal with almost losing her. Treasure your moments with your son. Hugs.
